What kind of havoc could Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) wreak at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival? In this warmly silly farce, the British man-child wins a vacation to the French Riviera, where he befriends a little Russian boy, steals a bicycle, and has many a rendezvous with a lovely actress (Emma de Caunes) appearing in a film by a stuffy American director (Willem Dafoe). Preston Nyman, Jean Rochefort co-star. 90 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish; deleted scenes; featurettes.

I have followed the work of Rowen Atkinson for over 20 years now and found this movie to be a genuine Mr. Bean adventure. There is something about Mr. Bean that I find just hysterical. Perhaps it's his naivity, or his humility, or his humanity, or his child-like creativity - all aspects of this simple yet complex person that makes watching him delightful.
In Mr. Bean's Holiday, Mr. Bean is taking a vacation to the beach. With his plaid suitcase in one hand and his digital camera in the other it takes no time at all for this bull in a china shop to be turning peoples lives upside-down. One of those lives is that of a young boy who gets separated from his father on a train by - you guessed it - Mr. Bean. So Mr. Bean takes this boy under his wing and makes it his mission to get him back with his father.
Now Mr. Bean has always just been Mr. Bean and he has never shared the spotlight with anyone else and adding a child sidekick was a major part of the movie that perhaps was unnecessary, even for plot building. At the same time, I saw an endearing and caring side to Mr. Bean that I hadn't seen him show before (except with his teddy bear).
Even as a huge Mr. Bean fan, I admit I didn't laugh like crazy through the whole movie, but it still gets two big thumbs up because there was some very funny comedy that only Mr. Bean could do. There is one scene, in particular, where Mr. Bean is hitch-hiking that made me laugh so hard I was weeping like a baby.
Rowen Atkinson has announced that Mr. Bean's Holiday would be the last adventure for his character Mr. Bean. I am sad if this is true because I have had so much enjoyment from watching Mr. Bean since I was a young child. But all good things must come to an end, and the success of Mr. Bean's Holiday movie was a great way to end indeed.
